Born, Kenneth G. Williams II, the Texas native began making beats in 1998. Williams joined the U.S. Air Force in 2003 and was sent to Pisa, Italy. During his off time, he worked for a local record company that produced house/minimalist music. In 2004, Williams was tapped to write verses for European pop singer Sara Cruz. By late 2005, Kenny formed a working relationship with multi-platinum engineer Irko of Studiobeat2. Williams’ talent for production has received praise from many over the years to include rappers Q-Tip, Game, E-40 and others. His influences include; Stevie Wonder, J Dilla, Pharrell Williams, Ryan Leslie, and Kanye West.

In 2010, Kenny Williams and entrepreneur Kenjuan Simon founded their record label Outta Step, LLC. The duo long had plans of establishing their venture but was in need of a title that represented the independent style they brought to the music industry. In June of 2010, Williams came up with the name “Outta Step” while on a flight from Tokyo to Dallas. The name comes from an old military formation marching term. If a soldier is out of step, he is going the same direction as his peers but he’s walking his own way. When that troop is marching out of step he is instantly noticed because he is different.

That’s what we do here at Outta Step Music. We’re making records and performing at shows but we do it our way. We have our own style and that’s totally essential when you’re trying to make it in an over-saturated genre like Hip-Hop and R&B. I’m not trying to produce what’s on the radio now. I’m working on the sound that will be on the radio in the future. When you do that your sound becomes timeless and not trendy.

Outta Step, LLC specializes in composing Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, and Reggae records. The label has been cleverly dubbed “The couture of hip-hop beats” because every song is produced specifically for the performer’s unique vocals, style, and creative goal. Today the company operates independently and has helped develop unsigned acts such as Kid Popular, Amos, and Znai.
