Portia Monique is a beautiful Vocalist with a magnificent talent that not everyone can pull off. I came across her music on Myspace, back in the Myspace days… and was completely mesmerized by her skill. She does not need the help of Auto Tune to do what she does with her God given gift and I truly believe she is underrated. If you listen to the interview she did on Kitty Williams LIVE and check out some of her tracks we played, you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. This woman needs to be on every radio station and invited to do collaborations with all the hottest Artists who are worthy of her vocal presence on their albums. I know, I know. Yes, I’m talking her up real good. But look up the live interview when you get the chance. For now we’ve included it below from February 2010 so you can get to know Portia Monique as well. Read through to the end to see what she’s up to now and how she got from Seattle to Singapore, then go online and check her out!

Kitty: Where are you from?

Portia: I reside in Seattle, Washington

Kitty: How do you describe what you do in your own words, because I don’t want to put you in a box?

Portia: And that’s the whole thing, I don’t want to be put in a box. So, I do a little bit of R&B, Neo-Soul, Pop. I just like to mix it up because I like all types of music and want to integrate it all, I want folks to hear it all from me as I respect them all equally.

Kitty: It’s a Beautiful blend that you have. What is your website where people can connect with you and find your music?

Portia: for my show dates, pictures, interviews and new music

Kitty: What was your moment when you realized that you wanted to do music seriously? What got you into all of this?

Portia: At 16 is when I knew. I moved to Houston at that time for about 7 years and things started coming together as far as Producers and recording in the studio… But not the traditional kind of studio. I mean bathrooms and closets ok, don’t judge me (she chuckles). You have to get your start somewhere. But 16 was the age when I realized this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
