Soulful In Singapore: Portia Monique


Kitty: You seem to find the right blends of everything you want by doing so. You can do anything you set your mind to so anything is possible. What words of inspiration do you have for other artists or fans that really love your music? What’s something you want to make sure they know about the industry or about you, Portia Monique?

Portia: For me it’s about staying true to yourself and your gift and everything else will fall into place. Never give up. It may take a while or it may happen over night. A little bit of what I do to stay focused is listen to good music to get inspired. Even just listening to my own music I get chills and I know this is going to happen even though I don’t know when.

Kitty: Out of everything you’ve done in your musical career from the beginning to now, what would you say was your biggest accomplishment so far?

Portia: Getting my first single played on the radio in Austin, TX. I was working in downtown Seattle and met up with this lady who was doing my nails who asked me what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I started humming the melody of one of my songs and she got all excited like “That was YOU?” It felt so good to have my first real fan and to know that people appreciate what I do. It was crazy. So the next day I brought her in a CD of my single.
