What’s GNU With AtLas’

Kitty: Congratulations on all of that and I’ll have to go look for (the picture of) you on top of that speaker. What’s the most rewarding thing about what you do? What keeps you motivated to do what you do?

AtLas’: There’s always something to write about, whether I see it or acknowledge it, it’s there.  If you’re a Writer, a blank page is another day that you should be working. If you’re an Artist, You should never walk past a canvas or a piece of paper. You should always leave your mark.  What keeps me going is knowing that I can put my own spin on the world as a whole and perhaps the way that I put a subject matter can open people’s perspectives to viewing things.  Hip Hop in particular has for the last 30 years been the language of the youth and that’s who I’m interested in speaking with, to and for.

Kitty: Give me one final word of inspiration or wisdom for other upcoming artists or just for your fans.

AtLas’: When I interview people, one of the things that I ask frequently, is “If you had the opportunity to speak to your 10 year old self, what would you say to them to prepare them for your life right now? “So my only thing is make the innocent version of you that knew you could do anything in this world, make them proud. Make sure they’re happy to see what you’ve done with your life.

Kitty: I like that, I’ve never heard of that before. Do you want to give any shout outs?

AtLas’: Anyone who’s my friend on my  social networks. My best friends Toya & Tanya, my group GNU. My Hip Hop Sisters, all my siblings, godchildren, nieces and nephews…

Kitty: Last of all. What do you feel makes you a different kind of Artist?

AtLas’: A quote that I like to live by, “I am who I am, not yet who I’ll be.” I don’t know if this makes me any different from anyone, but it definitely makes me the most me. I’m most concerned with being the perfect version of me. The one God intended me to be. So everyday I strive to be the perfect me.

Kitty: I can only imagine what you’ll be like in another 30 years or so as you continue to evolve and just get better and better.
