Mz Fee’s Grown Folks Party

Austyn: Currently you host one of the hottest radio shows in Houston called “The Grown Folks Party” on Power Hits 281. How long have you been hosting this program? And tell the readers a little bit about the show as well.

Mz FeeMz Fee: I started the original version of this show in 2005 at 96.1FM Tha Zone and it features Old School R&B, Hip Hop, Funk, and of course the indie Artists. I tend to play music that moves me, whatever my mood is when I am making my playlists. From 96.1 FM, I went to internet radio and then finally landed at Power Hits 281 in 2009. I love my show because I have creative freedom. Each program has a different theme. Monday’s are generally old school. It can vary from old school R&B, like perhaps The O’Jays, Temptations, Sly & the Family Stone etc or as recent as 80’s and 90’s. I’ve even had a show on which I did a tribute to the old MTV days by playing groups like Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Eddy Grant, Twisted Sister…. It was a crazy show and lots of people enjoyed it. Wednesday night is my Sexxy edition of the show; mostly songs that get you in the mood (if you know what I mean). Thursday night is my Neo/R&B night, covering music from the 90’s to present day. On all of these days, I still play indie Artists.

Austyn: On top of being a DJ, you’re also a Promoter. Who are some of the Musicians you are promoting right now and where can we hear some of their music?

Mz Fee: My company, First Lady Entertainment, is currently working with a young artist BE. She is a 15 year old Singer/Songwriter whose project you’ll be hearing as soon as it’s finished. I also have a Rock group in Germany called Projekt Eva and they are currently working on a project as well; we hope to be finished by the end of the year. In addition, I help promote a few Artists via my radio show including The VX, DeP, Chadd Johnson, Adrian B, Muhammad 2G, and Bossbaby. You can find them all on YouTube and purchase their music via iTunes, etc…

Austyn: Now when you are bringing exposure to all of these underground Artists, do you promote them just in your hometown of Houston or do you venture outside of the Houston area?

Mz Fee: I actually moved to Germany from 2009-2010 and took several Artists’ music with me in order to promote them over there. I will travel outside of Houston if the Artist is really serious about their music and willing to pay for my services.
