Soul”n”Roll King “SoulGreg Artist” of Slovenia

SoulGreg Artist

The INDIEgator: You have a number of songs that bring light to the evils of the world, or the need for people to love each other and work together, or for people to feel free as themselves in this life. A lot of your music is very positive and uplifting while several other musicians focus on materialism, sex, drugs, violence, etc… Why not join that commercial bandwagon for faster or more fame?

SoulGreg Artist: Thank you. A while ago I was at a turning point in my life, where I had seriously started asking myself what I would like to say and share with the world through my music. As an Artist, I feel a responsibility to share my message and view of the world as it is today. I want to contribute my share of the love within me and through that make an impact with my music. Everyone plays a part in our society and I am playing mine through the music which lives within me by putting myself out as I am.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against fame, fortune or commercial music; I actually love it. My only wish is to be recognized as a musician, as an Artist through who I truly am. Admittedly, I really never knew how to pretend to be anything else but me. My priorities are love, the relationships in my family, respecting myself, family and the world; that is always my goal. Love is the state that makes me want to live, it is the state that makes life reasonable and it is the state that gives a person true happiness. The biggest reward for me would be the opportunity to fully share myself and with that to fully share my music with the world.

My themes in music were never focused on violence or drugs because that has never been a part of my life. I have never been attracted to that and never believed in that. I believe in education, knowledge and as I had said already I believe a person (in order to be fulfilled) should personally mature over the years of his life.

Through personal growth, one becomes closer to the true content and purpose within him. At this point, you truly have something to say and it can touch the world because you and your message are real. It is important to know who you are and where you are as a person. To know and recognize your essence is to be an original; only then can you recognize your place in this world. It seems to me that a lot of people are lost, even when it looks like they have everything. As an Artist, I have a vision to contribute something new to the world’s music industry; my guitar, the feeling within me, rock and soul, so this is me, Soul “n” Roll.

The INDIEgator: Why is the Vision for SoulGreg Artist’s music different than theirs?

SoulGreg Artist: My vision is nothing else but Soul “n” Roll, which will also be the title of my new upcoming album. I have devoted my life to love and to music. I am a student of life every day. Vrednost Neuspeha (translated: The Value of Failure) is a book in Slovene on the theory of personal growth and it teaches one what love and respect is. It consumes a methodology of “cleansing ones values and evaluations”. Well, it basically teaches a person to take responsibility for his own life, where love and respect is the goal. I wish for this book to be translated in English as fast as it can be because it is a great discovery and would be wonderful if the world could hear about it.

The INDIEgator: I have watched and enjoyed several of your Music Videos over the years. They are always of such Amazing quality, production and direction. Aside from performing on screen, do you play any role behind the scenes in orchestrating the magic that we the audience see?

SoulGreg Artist: Thank you. At this point I would like to say that I have a great team breathing with me, Eksena Records. I call them my guardian angels because they support me unconditionally and are always

standing right by my side helping the projects come to life, which we are working on. What means the most to me is that they are the ones who have recognized me as an Artist. For that I will always be grateful. As an Artist, I am the one who has the final say and each action and reaction is always run through me and made by me. Each song, each video, the production and the mixing are done by me. I already have a vision of my next music video. I can feel the scenario and the direction of my projects in music.

The INDIEgator: That is beautiful! Many musicians once signed to a label unfortunately do not always have the opportunity to keep creative control over their art so we think it is so awesome that Eksena Records allows you to be yourself and share your unique vision with the world. SoulGreg Artist, you are so talented and very energetic playing and singing live music on stage. The melodic range of your vocal chords and the way your fingers dance across the strings of the guitar… it’s just so mesmerizing. What do you love best about performing on stage?

SoulGreg Artist: Thank you. When you perform live in front of an audience, something special occurs and it is truly extraordinary. I call those performances “perfect imperfections”. I truly enjoy performing live, where I have the privilege of sharing my music with the public and the public gives you direct feedback. You can feel the love in the air and it is great hearing real instruments being played. The live sounds of my BigLights band with their energy give an even greater rush to my music, my Soul “n” Roll. Playing live is my passion and the first reason why I dedicated my life to being a musician, to being an Artist.

The INDIEgator: How do you prepare yourself mentally or spiritually for each live adventure?

SoulGreg Artist: There must be good technical preparation and a lot of practice.

“To know and recognize your essence is to be an original; only then can you recognize your place in this world.”

SoulGreg Artist: You have to really put your whole self into it if you wish to provide a good adventure. Overall, everything that appears on the stage and even those who are performing by the stage must bring maximum expertise and energy in their own area if we want to make the best of what we know.

Right before a live performance I always focus on letting go of my perfectionism and my own demands for how it must be. I instead focus on being responsible for what is mine to be responsible for. I give in to trusting that everything will be the way I need it to be. I try to give myself fully and let the public react to the way they see me. I am responsible for giving them myself and my music. Letting go of everything that you cannot have an impact on is very hard, but I always trust that I will be given the right situation for me to be a greater me.

The INDIEgator: In your own opinion SoulGreg Artist, what is it about your Music that makes it appeal to new fans across the world, to fans who (like me at one point) may have never even

heard of the country from which you originate?

SoulGreg Artist: I think that listeners who are drawn to my music can feel the passion, the power, the truth, the width, the dedication and the combination of two different styles which have been flowing through my veins over the years and now that energy flows through my music.  I am fully aware that there is a lot of great music out in the market and this is why I feel blessed each time I have an opportunity where another door opens for my art. I do not know where I will be in years ahead, I just know that I am truly grateful for each new fan that recognizes me as an Artist. I also believe in the saying “What you give is what you get” and I know I will surely get to “my place”, and that place surely contains music which will always be me, my life.

The INDIEgator: Name 3-5 Celebrity Musicians you would like to collaborate with that you have not worked with yet?

SoulGreg Artist: I’d like to write Stevie Wonder five times :-). If I could only

meet him I would be overjoyed. Today’s world is still far too little aware of the meaning of the music by this musical phenomenon Stevie Wonder. Otherwise, I would love to collaborate with Steve Vai, Prince and there are many other great Artists of course, who I would really love to work with as well.

The INDIEgator: In some of your song lyrics, music videos and stage performances, I notice sometimes fashion styles, a stage presence and energy radiating from you that reminds me of other great Musicians including Prince and Michael Jackson. Who are some of the Entertainers that have influenced your craft?

SoulGreg Artist: I thank you for those big words. Freddy Mercury, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Prince, Steve Vai, Elvis Presley and there are also a lot of other Artists who have influenced my life. I have this feeling that I can learn from each person that crosses my path in one way or another. I can learn from everybody. Each person has something to give and to say.
