Veteran Vocalist Amanda Cole Talks Breaking the Mold

of Music being a business. Luckily I’m able to sing the way I want to sing, I can sing the songs I want to sing, I can dress the way I want to dress and can present the image that I feel is appropriate for ME. I can do all of that without the influence or the manipulation of big money or big business.

I may not reach the masses but my goal is not to reach a gazillion people. My goal is to inspire one person, one young Singer, to believe in something better than what they’re told is the best option for them as Musicians. I want to find the redemptive qualities in my experience and use those to inspire someone else to be better, to be greater than what they believed was even possible. The idea that I can inspire even just one person to facilitate positivity and honesty through music… THAT motivates me. That’s the most important thing I can do as an Artist. I feel blessed to have this freedom.

The INDIEgator: We would absolutely LOVE to see Amanda Cole, the Solo Artist, performing and touring on stages all across the world again. Where do you see yourself on your music journey in the next 5 -10 years?

Amanda Cole: I’m really hoping for a one and done, lol. This job is very time consuming and I have a family. So after this EP, I hope to release a full album and then enjoy whatever success or lessons that come from that. I’m not a kid so I honestly don’t see this being a 10 year adventure.

The INDIEgator: Do you have any plans on collaborating with any specific Musicians in the near future?

Amanda Cole: I haven’t really thought about collaborations but I’m open to the idea. I would love to collaborate with Maxwell or maybe even Tamia. I love their vocal artistry….

The INDIEgator: Can you tell us a little bit about your Songwriting and what it’s like to write Music for others, being a Vocalist yourself? Is that challenging?

Amanda Cole: Songwriting has always been my number one focus because it is limitless in creative expression. It has actually helped me to become a better Singer because the songs I write are for Vocalists. My songs are somewhat difficult to sing if you’re not solid in your vocal foundation. I don’t know why I write that way, lol. I demo, produce and vocally arrange every song I write. Of course being a perfectionist, even as a demo it has to sound a certain way, so it stretches me vocally. Songwriting is never work for me. I actually love it much more than singing.

The INDIEgator: Aside from Singing and Songwriting, do you have any other special talents, abilities or hobbies that you regularly tap into?

Amanda Cole: I’m a Crafter. I make my own phone cases, computer cases, duct tape bows and all kinds of stuff. Anything creative, I do it!! I’m also a Conspiracy Theorist, but that’s for another time lol.  I love information, facts, History, Science, Metaphysics, Quantum Theory, Ancient History, Mythology and Religion. Anything that can be questioned, I like to study.

The INDIEgator: Wow that was unexpected! I just love your diversity in both your personal interests and professional talents. You totally rock! Amanda, what is your personal motto for success and do you have any words of inspiration or knowledge to other aspiring Artists?

Amanda Cole: Find yourself and be that. That’s my motto. Never make singing like any particular Artist your goal. Your voice was uniquely created for a very specific reason. When you

allow that voice to shine through, the reason (most of the times) becomes apparent. DO YOU always, not just musically but in life.

The INDIEgator: What roles have your family or friends played in your career, success or inspiration?

Amanda Cole: I know everyone says they couldn’t do it without the support of family and friends, but it’s so true. My family sacrifices so I can do this job. I’m so lucky to have people I can trust, folks that will tell me the truth. An Artist cannot grow without support and honesty; my family and friends provide that without fail.

The INDIEgator: Yes, that is very true. What would you say makes you unique from other Musicians?

Amanda Cole: I guess I’m unique because I honestly don’t sound or sing like anyone else. I finally have the confidence to be myself and embrace the voice God gave me. It’s a blessing to find your voice, put it out there and have people appreciate it. It’s nice to have folks say they like my songs or my voice and know that it’s ME they like, not some contrived image or computer generated sound, but who I am. That includes my crazy faces, distracting hand gestures and all. There’s nothing like that acceptance.

The INDIEgator: Well Amanda, like I said before, you totally rock. I love how open and honest you have been with us during this interview regarding your journey so far and where you plan to go. We continue to be amazed with your abilities and truly look forward to watching you soar to your rightful place as the amazing, outspoken and inspiring independent Artist that you truly are. Thank You!
