Chill Gives Birth to “Street Gospel”

Poet Chill and Host Anthony McDonald

The INDIEgator: Do you see you guys working together on additional albums or projects in the future or was this just a see how it goes type of thing?

Chill: Well as far as the relationship with Spike and I, I would always want him to be there; I trust Spike. It’s like when Snoop came out he had Dr. Dre, so that’s how I look at it. When we go into the studio, I do my Spoken Word and leave. He’ll call me a few hours later with the track telling me to come back as soon as I can so I can hear everything he has done. He’s more excited about what he comes up with and I can say it’s like a competition. His music is competing with my poetry and I look at it as my poetry is competing with his music. It’s like a marriage; it’s blessed and meant to be so I will always work with Spike and I know he feels the same as far as working with me as well.

The INDIEgator: Including one of your sons, there were a lot of special people mentioned at your release that had inspired you or played a part in this event. You had a couple of special sponsors and there was in particular your main sponsor whom you talked very deeply about and brought tears to lots of eyes with that. I actually had the pleasure of sitting at the table with them. Is there anything you would like our readers to know about these special guests?

Chill: Yes. Leave Me Bee Pest Control, the owners are husband and wife team Tito and Yolanda Dunn. I’ve worked under Yolanda for 3 years and have known Tito since junior high. It’s just a real good relationship and they are wonderful people. I’m glad that we have a blessed relationship as in the future I’m planning to continue working with them. It’d be a blessing if they feel the same way about me which I know that they will. Also, I had my good friend Anthony McDonald hosting the evening; he did an excellent job.

The Producer of the Street Gospel project (Spike Rebel) was part of the band, Tony Medina was part of the amazing performance and my Pastor Michael Hurst from New Horizon was there. Everything was perfect last night. I’m grateful for everyone that came out including my Family, Friends, Relatives from the south, even The INDIEgator. It was just so much love in the building and I’m still overwhelmed by everything that took place last night.

The INDIEgator: What about the food, and was there any other media on site?

Chill: Yes. Yes. Cheryl Bowman from N’awlins Edibles was there. I met her about 3 years ago at that show I did for BET, the same place where I met Spike. She came out and did her thing. We have a beautiful relationship and she is growing her business as well. I’m looking forward to supporting Cheryl throughout the years to come. She’s going to have a restaurant open real shortly and I’m pretty sure we’ll be doing Spoken Word there and she’ll have me as the Host.

The INDIEgator: And this event we’ve been speaking about, will we all be able to see any of this on DVD soon with pictures and all of that?

Chill: Yes. It’s being put together by Nate Bennett and will be out probably within the next week and a half. I’m looking forward to the DVD and raw live footage. My team and I are going to promote that to the best of our abilities and we believe it’s going to open up a lot of doors for us.

The INDIEgator: Well we certainly are looking forward to the footage as well. What other upcoming events and projects do you have going on right now Chill?

Chill: Like I mentioned before I’m an Actor as well. I have a Play entitled “Forbidden Fruit” written by Evie Wells

that will take place April 11th & 12th, 2015 in downtown Aurora, IL. I’ve never had an opportunity to be part of a Production as far as Theater in this area, so I’m looking forward to everybody coming out to support me. I also have a few movies that I signed on to at the end of last year, so it’s going to be busy for me. I’m going back to school for Acting as well, I have a lot of shows coming up for Spoken Word with this new project Street Gospel… I’m excited about everything and it’s going to keep me busy.

The INDIEgator: Please let everybody know exactly where we can find you and keep up with your projects online.

Chill: You can find me on Facebook at Caneil Chill Oliver, I’m also on Instagram @ChristopherCaneil, and Twitter @ImCaneilChill. If you want to get in contact with me to do a show, you can reach my Manager Yvonne Moore at 708.654.1030. Just give her a call and we can make some things happen.

The INDIEgator: Alright Chill, thank you so much for taking the time to interview with us. It’s been a pleasure to chill with you and your support circle in your hometown.

Chill: Thank you to The INDIEgator Magazine and my good friend Kitty Williams for coming all the way from H-Town to Chicago to support this event. To everybody who came out and has been supporting me over the years, THANK YOU! God Bless.
