The Backstory Since this comprehensive review focuses on the NEW album, I won’t go too deep in the past. I was born in ’82, so in 1997 I would’ve been around 14-15 years old when I first heard about Kenny. This was around the time where I still believed I was going to hell for listening to any music other than Gospel or Country. See my Grandfather Zachariah was the co-founder and Bishop of a large church in Alabama. A lot of their narrow ways and customs were passed down through my mother. That didn’t stop me, however, as a teenager from watching BET while she was away at work on the night shift; or sneaking off to the other room to watch music videos with the volume on low, only to quickly turn the channel to cartoons as soon as I heard footsteps approaching.

The 90s was such a good decade for music about real love by real Artists who sang from the heart, with legitimate vocal abilities. Kenny Lattimore was and still is one of those quality crooners. Being from the church life, he understood a very

important timeless principle: God is Love. That understanding was very evident, at least in my opinion, through his conscious decision to also be a Messenger of Love via the gifts he was granted. Real love is able to transcend many barriers created by society and it is his specialty.

Fast forward to 2017 and the single “For You” is still a classic hit amongst lovers, newlyweds and romantics like myself. After I broke off a long-term relationship this year realizing it was going nowhere good, I logged on to YouTube and created an empowering new private playlist, calling it “Love Affirmations”. I now understand a lot more about life in my mid-thirties, including the law of attraction and how the music and media we feed ourselves affect our emotions for the good and bad.
